Google Messages Is Getting A Brand New Logo

Google Messages may undergo a branding update, replacing its standalone “G” logo with the full “Google” wordmark, according to findings from a recent APK teardown by Android Authority.

This tweak aligns Google Messages with branding already adopted by other core Google applications. The teardown indicates that the app’s header could feature the complete wordmark instead of the traditional icon.

APK teardowns are useful for predicting future features based on in-progress code, though not all predicted updates reach public release. Currently, the “G” icon is prominent in the top-left corner of the screen.

Using advanced analysis techniques, it was discovered that the new branding may also appear on devices like Samsung phones utilizing One UI. Previously, Google updated its core applications, including Google Calendar, Drive, and Photos, to display the “Google” branding in white text.

In this instance, the wordmark is expected to feature a full-color logo, providing a distinct appearance. The specific timeline for the implementation of this branding in Google Messages remains uncertain, though it may coincide with a future UI refresh. Ongoing observations will determine if it appears in stable app versions.
