New IPad Pro To Get A Second Front Camera

Apple is reportedly planning a significant alteration to the iPad Pro’s front-facing camera system with the upcoming M5 model, anticipated later this year, addressing prior design changes.

The M4 iPad Pro, released last year, featured a repositioned front-facing camera, moving it from the top to the side. Bloomberg reports that Apple intends to introduce a second front-facing camera for the M5 iPad Pro. Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, stated, “Apple is apparently adding a second, portrait-side front-facing camera to the upcoming M5 iPad Pro, presumably so FaceTimers and selfie fans can use the device equally well in either orientation.”

This adjustment aims to accommodate users who prefer to utilize the device in portrait orientation for video calls and photography, potentially mitigating concerns raised by the M4 model’s camera placement. The introduction of a second camera is expected to provide greater versatility for users, allowing for more natural interaction regardless of the device’s orientation. This M5 iPad Pro will mark Apple’s initial deployment of the M5 chip.

Subsequent devices incorporating the M5 processor, specifically the first M5 Macs, are projected for release in the first half of 2026. Beyond the enhanced processing power and the revised camera configuration, no other substantial design modifications are currently anticipated for the M5 iPad Pro.
