According to Mobilissimo, Nokia and HMD Global began separating last year, leading to the removal of Nokia-branded phones from hmd.com, replaced by HMD-branded models.
A Nokia Community Manager recently stated on the Nokia sub-reddit that Nokia is interested in collaborating with a “large scale mobile manufacturer” for its brand. This suggests a potential continuation of Nokia’s presence in the mobile phone sector through a new partnership.
Nokia and Leonardo to deliver global private networks for critical industries
Nokia had previously engaged in brand licensing agreements for various product categories. Streamview produced televisions under the Nokia brand, RichGo manufactured headphones and other smartphone accessories, and OFF Global developed laptops. All these previous branding deals have now concluded.
HMD is currently scaling back its operations, including a reduction in its presence within the United States. Concurrently, Nokia addressed speculation last year regarding a potential acquisition of its network business by Samsung. Nokia issued a denial of these rumors, and no further reports on the matter have emerged since then. Nokia is scheduled to release its Q2 2025 financial results on Thursday. In the first quarter, the company reported an operating profit of €156 million, generated from net sales totaling €4.39 billion.
