WhatsApp is testing a new feature allowing users to set reminders for specific messages, according to findings by WABetaInfo.
This functionality enables users to schedule a notification for a message instead of relying on chat pinning, message starring, or memory.
WABetaInfo discovered the feature in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android. Users can long-press a message, select “Remind me,” and choose reminder intervals of 2 hours, 8 hours, 24 hours, or a custom duration.
Upon setting a reminder, a small bell icon appears on the message. When the timer expires, WhatsApp sends a notification tagged “🔔Reminder,” displaying the message content, the originating chat, and a media preview, similar to standard notifications.
WhatsApp will now summarize your messy group chats
WhatsApp is also testing notifications for unread messages from frequent contacts. WABetaInfo stated, “This feature allows WhatsApp to occasionally send notifications highlighting unread messages from contacts they interact with most frequently. This is useful in situations where a user is busy managing multiple conversations and unintentionally overlooks a message from someone they interact with often.”
No release date for these beta features has been specified.
