Conflicting rumors have emerged regarding the main camera for Samsung’s future Galaxy S26 Ultra. According to the prolific leaker Ice Universe, the device will retain the same 200MP Isocell HP2 sensor used in the Galaxy S23 and S24 Ultra models.
This claim directly contradicts a previous rumor from another source which suggested the S26 Ultra would feature a new, larger 200MP sensor made by Sony.
BREAKING!
Galaxy S26 Ultra :HP2+ large aperture !
will greatly increase the light input, improve the dim light quality, and improve all existing problems. The actual effect it brings will be the most obvious upgrade since Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.— PhoneArt (@UniverseIce) July 25, 2025
While the sensor may remain the same, Ice Universe asserts that it will be paired with a lens that has a wider aperture. This hardware change would significantly increase the amount of light hitting the sensor, which should translate to improved image quality in low-light conditions.
A major benefit of increased light intake is the ability to use faster shutter speeds, a change that could finally help Samsung address the persistent shutter lag issues that have affected its previous flagship phones. However, as the Galaxy S26 Ultra is still far from release, these early hardware details remain unconfirmed and subject to change.
