ChatGPT Hits 700 Million Weekly Active Users

ChatGPT is projected to reach 700 million weekly active users this week, demonstrating continued growth for the chatbot application. The application previously attained 500 million weekly active users by the conclusion of March, as stated by Nick Turley, OpenAI VP and head of ChatGPT’s app, in a post on X. Turley also noted that the application’s user base has expanded fourfold since the previous year.

OpenAI’s introduction of an enhanced image-generation feature, powered by the GPT-4 model, in March contributed to the application’s increased popularity. Following this launch, OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap reported in early April that over 130 million users had generated more than 700 million images within days. The company has also observed an increase in its subscriber base.

Lightcap further stated last week that ChatGPT now has 5 million paying business users, an increase from 3 million recorded in June. A recent report from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower indicates that users engage with ChatGPT for an average of over 12 days per month, placing it behind only Google and X in terms of monthly usage frequency. The report additionally specified that during the first half of 2025, users spent an average of 16 minutes per day utilizing the application.
