OpenAI has introduced a flashcard-based quiz feature in ChatGPT, allowing users to create interactive quizzes on a wide range of topics to assess their learning progress.
This functionality is part of the Study and Learn tool and is not limited to a specific GPT-5 model. Users can start the quiz creation process with prompts like, “Turn financial econometrics into a clean GPT flashcard quiz,” specifying any topic they want to study.
When using the GPT-5-Thinking model, the AI analyzes the prompt and generates interactive flashcard quizzes directly within the conversation interface. Participants can select answers for each question, and the system moves to the next question automatically. At the end of the quiz, a scorecard is presented. Users can also submit follow-up questions to dive deeper into the topic and take additional quizzes. The system adapts the difficulty of questions based on the user’s progress, retaining context throughout the session.
Research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) shows that quizzes are an effective learning method because they allow learners to evaluate their actual knowledge rather than perceived knowledge. ChatGPT’s new study and learn mode with flashcard quizzes incorporates this principle, making it a powerful tool for both casual learning and exam preparation.

OpenAI has quietly released this feature under the name QuizGPT, which can be accessed simply by asking for it. It’s versatile and works for nearly any subject, from programming and quantum physics to art history and practical skills like dog training.
