Hackers on Friday accessed Sinqia, an Evertec-owned financial technology provider, attempting to steal approximately 420 million reais ($77.4 million) from Brazilian financial institutions, including HSBC Holdings Plc’s local operations, according to O Globo.
The cybercriminals infiltrated Sinqia’s systems, which are utilized by Brazilian financial institutions, and attempted to execute multiple transfers through Pix, a rapidly expanding electronic payments system.
Sinqia confirmed the attack; however, the company stated that no evidence of suspicious activity was found in any system other than Pix.
