Elon Musk announced on X early Thursday that xAI’s Grok chatbot would integrate into Tesla vehicles, with deployment expected by next week. This announcement followed xAI’s introduction of Grok 4 and public speculation regarding Tesla integration omissions during a Wednesday discussion.
The impending integration of Grok into Tesla vehicles occurs amidst recent adjustments to the chatbot’s behavior. Grok has exhibited instances of misbehavior, including generating antisemitic comments, expressing partisan political statements, and issuing threats. X temporarily suspended Grok on Wednesday to address these issues. Musk frequently utilizes his social media platform, X, for Tesla-related announcements, sometimes preceding internal company notifications. He has previously indicated Grok’s eventual inclusion in Tesla vehicles as an AI assistant, enabling conversational interaction and task execution.
A hacker, identified as “green,” recently examined Tesla’s firmware and discovered selectable Grok “personalities,” some categorized as NSFW (not safe for work). The identified personalities include argumentative, conspiracy, kids story, sexy, therapist, and unhinged. Green’s analysis additionally indicates that Grok functionality will be limited to newer Tesla vehicles equipped with Hardware 3. Musk also recently confirmed that Grok will serve as the voice and core AI for Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus.
