Amazon Launched A Cheaper New Kindle Colorsoft E-reader

One year after debuting its first color e-reader, Amazon is making the technology more accessible by adding two new models to the Kindle Colorsoft family. The company announced a new, more affordable 16GB Kindle Colorsoft priced at $249.99 and a comprehensive Kindle Colorsoft Kids bundle for $269.99.

The original $279.99 Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, which features 32GB of storage, will remain the premium offering. The new base model provides a $30 price reduction for users who don’t need the extra storage, wireless charging, or auto-adjusting front light included in the Signature Edition.

The Kindle Colorsoft Kids bundle includes the 16GB device, a choice of two kid-friendly covers, and a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids Plus.

Amazon stated the expansion is a direct response to strong customer adoption. “Our customers have loved reading Kindle in color,” the company noted in a blog post. “On average, they spend more time on Kindle Colorsoft and read hundreds more pages than on our other Kindle devices.”

This expansion follows a rocky launch for the Signature Edition, which saw Amazon briefly halt shipments after some customers reported a yellow bar appearing on the display.
