YouTube is expanding its AI-powered search results carousel to a broader base of Premium subscribers in the United States, an experimental feature initially announced in June. This functionality, available on both iOS and Android platforms, is active until August 20.
The AI-powered search results carousel is designed to enhance content discovery within the YouTube mobile application. It appears at the top of select search results, providing users with a streamlined method for finding relevant videos. For specific types of queries, such as those pertaining to shopping, travel, or local activities, the carousel displays a collection of pertinent videos. Each video is accompanied by a brief, AI-generated topic description, aiding users in quickly identifying content of interest.
An example of its application includes searches like “Best beaches in Hawaii,” where the carousel presents a curated selection of videos with concise summaries. This allows viewers to access relevant content directly without navigating through an extensive results page. The feature is limited to English-language videos and does not appear for every search query. Users interested in testing the feature can opt-in via the designated YouTube Premium New Features page. While currently restricted to the United States, YouTube may consider expanding this AI-powered discovery tool to additional regions following the conclusion of the trial period later this month.
