Google has announced the Pixel 10 Pro Fold at its Made by Google 2025 event, introducing the next-generation foldable device alongside the complete Pixel 10 product line. This foldable smartphone features a redesigned gearless hinge, upgraded camera capabilities, and the Tensor G5 chip, which is designed to enhance artificial intelligence functionalities.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will retail starting at $1,799 and will be offered in Moonstone and Jade color options. The device is equipped with 16GB of RAM and provides storage options up to 1TB. These specifications are designed to cater to users who require significant memory and storage capacity for their mobile computing needs.
A key innovation in the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is its new gearless hinge mechanism. According to Google, this design allows for a larger outer display with reduced bezel size, enhancing the device’s overall screen real estate. The updated hinge is also reported to be twice as durable as the hinge used in the previous Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Google states that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is engineered to withstand over ten years of folding and unfolding, underscoring the improved durability of the design.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold features an 8-inch inner display, which Google identifies as the largest among foldable devices. Complementing this is a 6.4-inch outer display made possible by the reduction in bezel size. The internal 8-inch Super Actual Flex display has been re-engineered with resilient ultra-thin glass and dual layers of anti-impact films to bolster protection against potential damage from drops.
For the first time, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold incorporates IP68-rated water and dust resistance, adding to the device’s durability and suitability for varied environmental conditions. The battery is designed to last up to 30 hours under typical usage patterns. The device also supports rapid charging, with the capability to reach a 50% charge in approximately 30 minutes. Google also indicates that the inner and outer displays are now 11% brighter than the previous model, achieving a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the first foldable device to feature Qi2 wireless charging. Google has also incorporated Pixelsnap, a magnetic technology that allows for the attachment of accessories. The Pixelsnap Charger with Stand can be magnetically attached, even when the phone is unfolded, and the Pixelsnap Ring Stand can prop the phone up for hands-free applications.
The Split Screen feature allows users to resize application windows beyond normal screen boundaries. Users can also adjust the proportion of screen space allocated to each app with a single tap. Google suggests that this functionality will facilitate tasks such as dragging images from Google Photos or links from Chrome directly into messaging applications. Furthermore, the feature can aid in comparative tasks, such as simultaneously viewing flight details in one app and hotel availability in another.
The device also introduces new game controller functionalities on the outer display, designed to enhance the gaming experience in compatible titles such as “Asphalt Legends” and “Disney Speedstorm.” Additionally, streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ have been optimized to provide more immersive viewing on the device.
Camera enhancements include a new Instant View feature that allows users to review captured photos side-by-side on the unfolded inner screen immediately after taking them. The Dual Screen Preview feature enables individuals being photographed to see themselves in real-time, facilitating better poses and overall photo quality.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is equipped with a 48 MP wide camera, a 5x telephoto lens with Super Res Zoom up to 20x, and an ultrawide lens with Macro Focus. This combination of lenses is designed to ensure high-quality image capture in various scenarios, from close-up shots to distant subjects.
According to Google, the Tensor G5 represents a major upgrade to its chip technology. It is designed to support advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence. The new chip is reported to deliver double-digit performance gains, featuring a TPU (Tensor Processing Unit) that is up to 60% more powerful and a CPU (Central Processing Unit) that is, on average, 34% faster. These improvements are intended to provide a smoother user experience when browsing the web or launching applications.
The Tensor G5 chip is the first to support Google’s Gemini Nano model, which unlocks over 20 generative AI experiences. These include features like Gemini Live, Magic Cue, and Daily Hub, as well as advanced photography capabilities such as Add Me, Best Take, and Camera Coach.
Pre-orders for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold began today, with the device scheduled to be available on store shelves starting October 9.
